Coming into the workshop, I sensed an opportunity to play around with some mammoth ivory that I had on hand.

Thinking about what could match well with the grey veins embedded in the ivory's surface, I decided to play around with polished titanium, taking a stab at pairing it with the ivory in a manner that I've never tried before. This piece builds upon the Ani 3.2 design, reimagining its composition to create a new take on a dynamic pocketable knife. The result is a seamless blend of polished Damasteel, mammoth ivory, titanium, and bespoke craftsmanship.

At the center of this piece is a 3.2-inch Damasteel blade, mirror polished to complement the etch pattern that flows between the pronounced curve of the cutting edge and the false edge along the spine. The reflective finish captures light beautifully, emphasizing the pattern while maintaining a precise and durable edge.

Housing the blade is a set of tumble-polished titanium bolsters that align with the titanium scales, fitting together like a puzzle, and are secured onto a lightweight titanium frame. The pivot system is composed of a titanium pivot screw with a mammoth tooth inlay on one side, and a mammoth tooth collar with a titanium pivot screw on the other.

To maintain consistency, I sculpted some titanium onto the blade to hold a polished mammoth tooth thumb stud, allowing for a smooth and comfortable deployment of the blade. Following the design change of the pocket clip in my previous folding knife piece, I also attached a modified pocket clip design on this piece to match the curve on the bolster.

The titanium bolsters, backspacer, and pocket clip were all tumbled in walnut shells to achieve an orange peel finish, giving the surface a soft yet textured appearance. This finishing technique not only enhances the look of the titanium but also makes any wear over time less noticeable, ensuring that the knife maintains its appearance even with regular use.

Overall, this knife is stunning combination of the unique polished finish of the titanium with the warmth and organic detail of mammoth tooth. Every element works together to create a knife that is both visually striking and functionally portable. From the mirror-polished Damasteel blade to the carefully sculpted set of ivory scales, thumb studs, and titanium bolsters, this piece represents an delicate balance of design and execution that turns folding knives into works of art.
